Enhancing Our Skills
During the height of the covid pandemic, SSFM had the good fortune of a workload that remained healthy, even while the ways we work changed dramatically. While most of our team worked remotely, our productivity remained high. We quickly discovered that without daily commutes, we gained additional time during the work day. Many of us used those extra hours to further our professional growth through online training, courses and certifications.
For example, our contract with the Hawaii Department of Transportation requires conducting inspections of each of its 1145 bridges once every 3 years. We took advantage of our new found time to enhance our inspection skills. We often experience difficulty in access at bridge locations. Several of our engineers are now certified in rope climbing and drone navigation.
