Puna Community Development Plan
SSFM’s people have continually demonstrated our unwavering commitment to the communities where we live and work. Most recently, Jennifer Scheffel was appointed a member of the Puma Community Development Plan Action Committee.
The planning area encompasses the center eastern portion of the Island of Hawai’i. As a member of the committee, Jennifer will have a hand in shaping the future of the community and implementing the upcoming General Plan 2045. The Action Committee addresses land-use amendments, policies, budgetary items, public-private partnership building, and community-based implementation activities needed to accomplish multiple goals.
Jennifer is a Senior Environmental Planner in our Hilo office and longtime resident of the Puna district, the fastest growing area on the Big Island. Planning for the area was interrupted by the Kilauea recovery. The Action Committee will jump start important overdue attention to managing the dynamic growth of the area. Jennifer joined SSFM from her prior planning position with AECOM and has been with the firm for 7 years. She’s been a practicing planning professional for 23 years. She explains that, “SSFM has been a perfect home to continue my involvement in environmental planning and project management. I think it’s absolutely the best company to work for. The way we’re all treated is quite extraordinary.”
